Finding Out Your Ideal Client is...You!

When we go through school, our internships, and agency work, we start to get an idea of who we do great work with and what clients bring out the best of our clinical skills and flourish because of it. A great fit for you is also a great fit for your client, and great fits lead to healing which, come on, is awesome.

I would say that out of the hundreds or thousand people I’ve talked to about niche, 85% of the time our ideal client is a version of ourselves. My ideal client for therapy resembles t…

You're Already a Good Writer

If you’re a therapist you’ve already got most of the skills necessary to be a writer, too. You’re likely:
  • Curious about people;
  • Interested in sharing information and inspiration; and
  • Able to construct a coherent narrative.
That means if you want to write, you should. And if you decide to write and want to get it out there for the rest of the world to read and get paid for it, you should do that, too.

Stuck on the Niche Question

You’ve probably heard a thousand times that a niche is really important in building a private practice. Maybe you resisted it. A List of All Great Things:
  1. I’m almost to the point where I can leave at 4PM everyday instead of 5. I’ve tried all these hacks for meals (Blue Apron, Terra’s Kitchen, already made meal delivery) and it took me until a couple weeks ago before I was like “wait- why create…

If You Market It, They Will Come

I see it all the time. People wanting to encourage each other in the FB Groups saying things like “Yes! If you build it, they will come!” My consulting clients say it to me with a hopeful voice, “If I build it, they will come, right?”

Well… not if they can’t find you. Not to be a downer, or to betray my woo-woo side, but your intention to be a private practice therapist is not actually enough to have a successful business. You can manifest like a mofo, but if you have no way of letting potential …

Pacing Yourself

It’s so easy to go full throttle when you get excited about something. I’m the last one to tell you to dampen your enthusiasm… if you’ve know me at all you know my excitability and passion are not the most easily containable.

But here’s the deal: we only have so much time and energy. There are 1 million different ways to market your private practice but that doesn’t mean you have to do all of them. I’d so much rather you go deep on a few activities than to spread yourself, and your message, too …
