About Shani Gardner, LCSW:

I have focused my clinical work in providing quality mental health care to young people of color experiencing anxiety, perfectionism and trauma. I am a trauma informed, anti-oppressive, relationally oriented, identity affirming therapist with an eclectic therapeutic style. I use many interventions to best support clients’ individual needs including cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, and mindfulness techniques.

I believe that therapy works best when we have the opportunity to build a strong rapport based in trust and mutual positive regard. Therapy is a long term commitment and investment in yourself. As we work together, I will ask process oriented questions to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviors with openness and curiosity. I will also provide you with new perspectives, helpful coping techniques and non judgemental validation.

In addition, I believe that healing doesn’t just happen in the mind. I encourage clients to connect with their bodies and breath to feel more grounded in the present moment. I use mindfulness and somatic based techniques to help with emotion regulation and calming.
