Episode # 231: Great Photos for Your Website with Jenny Levine

The Abundant Practice Podcast

You want your clients to be relaxed & comfortable around you, so having pictures on your website or social media where you look strained or tense, blurry, fuzzy, too filtered, or like you’re faking a laugh may throw a wrench in your branding & marketing. Professional photographer Jenny Levine stopped by the podcast this week to talk about how to find a great branding photographer, what questions to ask, & the tips & tricks to feel prepared for your photoshoot. We also talk about helpful hi…

Finding Confidence in Your Website Copy

When people join the Abundance Party or Inner Circle, one of their major pain points is their website copy; they're afraid to show up or get started. They've had really bad feedback that was probably unwarranted or a little harsh or someone pointed out a grammar error a little too gleefully.

Sometimes formatting can be a barrier- or branding can feel chaotic. This could be contributing to what I’m guessing the primary problem may be… the copy.

The 3 major problems I see in therapist copy, as…

How to Show Up As Yourself In Videos

It took me some time and some work to get comfortable on video - my Vimeo account is just a wasteland of starts and stops, flubbing what I'm saying, or just feeling like it wasn't quite there yet. I have a lot to say on this subject so buckle up.

In the Abundant Practice Builder's Facebook Group I posted one of the first videos I tried to film. My scripts were written, my content was something I was proud of. I was launching a program and I know it was super-helpful too. I borrowed fancy phot…

You're Already a Good Writer

If you’re a therapist you’ve already got most of the skills necessary to be a writer, too. You’re likely:

  • Curious about people;
  • Interested in sharing information and inspiration; and
  • Able to construct a coherent narrative.

That means if you want to write, you should. And if you decide to write and want to get it out there for the rest of the world to read and get paid for it, you should do that, too. Before becoming a therapist I made my living as a freelance writer, which included a 4-y…

Guest Blog: How to Make Weekly Blogging Ridiculously Easy and Fun

How to Make Weekly Blogging Ridiculously Easy and Fun by Natalie Moore

As private practitioners, we know the benefits of blogging for our practice.

1) It builds our website’s S.E.O., making it easier for our ideal client to find us.

2) It helps clients get to know us, starting the therapeutic relationship before a phone call is even made.

3) We build an audience to connect with over time that we can offer additional services to – should we choose to publish a book, launch an eCourse, etc.

5 Ways to Dance With Your Fear of Online Marketing

Daniel Fava has been a really helpful member of the free Abundance Practice-Builders Facebook Group for a long time. He’s a tech guy with a therapist wife and you can tell from this post that he blends the emotional and technological beautifully.  He’s seen how having an amazing website helped his wife’s private practice and is driven to spread the love to others’ practices as well.   When I asked him to guest post, I was thinking more about his tech know-how, the kind of stuff that makes me gla…

An SEO Playbook for Private Practice Websites Using WordPress

I’m lucky to have Matt Milloway of Private Practice Launcher as a sometimes-Ashevillain. He’s one of those cool location-independent types who is a major world traveler in a fascinating, non-snooty way. While catching coffee together one day, I watched him light up while talking about how he discovered his love for helping private practice owners create an authentic, effective online presence.  Having helped big corporations develop their online brands, he found the thrill of helping small busin…

SEO for Therapists using Squarespace

Jeff Guenther of The Practice Academy has been so helpful to many of you in the Abundance Practice Builders Facebook Group (Hop in!) so I was thrilled he agreed to write a post about increasing your Search Engine Optimization (SEO), especially when he wanted to make it specific to Squarespace.

If you’re like me, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by this stuff. My I-don’t-do-tech brain starts to freak out and tell me I can’t do it. Jeff makes it easy. He breaks it down into manageable steps and show…

Nuts and Bolts Roundup

I realize a lot of the blogs lately have been pretty mindset heavy. Depending on where you are as you’re building, that may be hitting the spot or missing the mark. It’s been a bit unbalanced from the readers’ end because in the background I’m chugging away at my What to Say When: Scripts and Templates for Counselors in Private Practice ecourse which, as you might guess from the title, is more how-to and less exploration of emotion. Thus, I’m staying balanced by blogging about mindset. For those…

Real Connection Requires Courage: How to Write Great Copy

Nikki Bonsol is awesome. She's a designer and copywriter who REALLY understands what we do, partly because of her experience working in social services. I'll be honest, I've worked with a copywriter before who really didn't get what we do and it was a huge disappointment and financial mistake. I've been a little leary of copywriters for therapists ever since until I "met" Nikki. Nikki gets that we have professional boundaries. She gets that we need to find that balance of professionalism and aut…
